Climb Kilimanjaro(part 2)

Climb Kilimanjaro Aug 2013
Apologies on the delay in providing everyone with the Kili update. Since our return have very much been sleeping/resting more sleeping and allowing my body to heal, although still feeling very tired! furthermore sleep is Dr Patel's recommendation
Wow wow wow! Kilimanjaro where do I begin without typing up a eye straining essay.
Kilimanjaro The Ultimate Price - Uhuru Peak all 5895M 19K feet
Summited successfully albeit extremely exhaustively on
Tue 20th Aug @ 15:42
Trek Started: 05:45
Trek Ended: 19:40
12 months in the planning, did we get it right? Simple answer No, although 90% of the equipment/logistics/tech clothing was a cheerful bang on.
Food in particular candy & chocs was totally incorrect type for the inhospitable Kili conditions.
Providing the body with food and water become very technical and scientific.
The amount of food/energy your body is burning through is truly epic and volcanic.
I felt my V6 body engine Go into hyper overdrive on the reaping benefits of simply consuming a single half bar of Kit Kat drinking an huge 4 liters of water per day and not a need for wee was baffling
There were many bodily sensations that I never felt my body go through previously in my lifetime. Physically my body coped well on the average 8.5 hour rugged kili terrain treks per day over 7 days. Not a single muscle ache (the pre-prep training of watching TV really paid off!!!). Although the high altitude did play havoc. Pressure pounding heavy weight headed and red eyeball bursting/popping feeling
Kilimanjaro landscape - was something out of an Hollywood flick likes of Lost in Space/Planet of the apes movie studio set - Mars like landscape and plants/flora of not of this world.
Trekking through the zones was somewhat challenging as the conditions would vary by the hour temperature, environment dryness, dust, wind and more importantly the diminishing/lack of oxygen.
Favorite zones Alpine desert, Artic Zone and the Barranco Wall, a classic all hands scrambling route
Kilimanjaro Sun - as the sun set an instant cold shiver would rattle the core of your bodily bones. Each morning would eagerly await for the sun to rise to provide the soothing warmth but at same would change the landscape as it becomes truly alive. The local would also chant and celebrate in anticipation of the rising sun
The sun rays were also becoming lethal as we ascended higher, thankfully the extra strength sun cream/spray, polarized sunglasses and SPF 50 tech clothing greatly assisted in redirecting the sun rays. Unfortunately not everyone was lucky!
Kili Highlight- Meeting the people of the land and more importantly meeting the people of Kilimanjaro. There is no Kilimanjaro for no one if it was not for the dedicated work undertaken by the unbiased kili porterage crew.
The A Team are up and down the mountain everyday day in day out hauling mind bending weight in the most inhospitable conditions of our planet.
These guys are the true Kili unsung heroes, these guys are the real Eco Warriors!
Many thanks to everyone for their kind donations and support
We all have raised a sizable sum off monies for charity Save the Children. I strongly believe, your donations will make a real difference to a child's life/wellbeing
Special thanks once again to Remploy on sponsoring a number of high quality expedition kit - ensured a successful summit and radiate of harrow council on sponsoring the custom printed T-shirt.
A very special thanks to my partner Prabz and the kids for giving the all important to visit Africa and there support throughout 2012/13. Our lives have revolved around Kili and all the time demanding pre-prep training
Kilimanjaro is a truly a magical, majestic, mesmerizing mountain, an experience like no other an experience that can only be had in one place on our planet.
