Climb Kilimanjaro(part 1)
Climb Kilimanjaro 16th Aug 2013
12 months in the planning and finally with great seismic anticipation our defining moment has arrived,
"Its Climb Kilimanjaro Time" - raising for charity Save the children
Many thanks to everyone for their kind donations and support in the recent coming months
We have raised a stonking sum shy of £5,000 for save the children whoop whoop.. Keep those donations coming in : )
If you still are on the fence line and thinking of donating or just heard about this event, It's pretty simple as one donator put it "Do it for the Children of the World"
My co-climber this week has pulled out last minute for business reasons, its not welcoming news especially as we are only days away.
Although for me, The Mission The Objective has not changed – The Eye is still on the Summit
Thankfully there is another group heading out with the exact same itinerary and mountain route as ours.
Will be joining 3 others all from USA and all of which are sole trekkers…. I foresee new lifelong friends!
Depart: Wed 14th Aug 06:30 LHR via Amsterdam 1 hour stop (KLM)
Arrival: Kilimanjaro Airport JRO @ Time 19:35 (KLM)
Climb details: Machame Route 5 Days accent and 2 days decent
Starts: Fri 16th Aug 07:00 Ends: Thu 22nd Aug 18:00
Trekking through 5 Climate Zones – Bushland, Rainforest, Moorland, Alpine desert and finally the Artic Zone
Some of the highlights am looking forwarding to:
Sunday 18th Acclimatization excursion to Lava Tower, reaching an height of 4630 meters above sea level (this will be real tester to see how the body copes at these heights)
Monday 19th Tackling the infamous Barranco Wall and the marriage breaking kissing rock (google it)
Tuesday 20th Summit Attempt: Full Moon -20 Summit attempt starts at approx. 23:45 hours with a brief stop at Stella Point 4am for a warm cuppa @ 5685m (It’s at this point where many climbers feel the pain/strain and have to decide to continue or make the tough decision to turn around).
If all goes well and too plan should arrive to the ultimate price, the Highest Peak in Africa 5895m - Largest free standing Active Volcano in the world, in time for a breathtaking sunrise like no other seen in my lifetime
